A consortium of leading electronics manufacturers such as Sony, Philips, Hitachi and Samsung are developing the Next-generation DVDs.

Imagine having a storage technology that can hold up to five times more data than current DVDs!  The focus here is moer storage capacity and better security since the make up of the new DVDs is 51% paper.  Unlike DVDs on the market today, the new paper DVDs can be shredded or cut up with scissors when you want to dispose of it.

The new disc is based on blue-laser DVD research which can hold around 25 gigabytes of data, compared to the current limit of 4.7 gigabytes for a regular DVD.

Don't expect to buy paper DVDs anytime soon, because it is not clear when the technology will be commercially available.
